2021-10-07 A FRIEND IN MY GARDEN In the orange tree this 6cm grasshopper was posing for me. She is an Egyptian grasshopper. There are many different insects in my garden and most of them just give me so much joy.

2021-10-02 GREAT EVENING 🇵🇹 Lovely environment and tasty food in the best company. Pizza along with a lesson in Portuguese and a lot of laughter. To spend time with Portuguese friends is both fun and evolving.

2021-09-27 SWEET POTATOES 🍠 Love sweet potatoes so much. Mine still need another month or two in the ground but got the crop from two plants from a friend. First thing first. Of course I made sweet potato fries in my airfryer! A delicious evening snack!

2021-09-24 FALURÖTT (Swedish colour) And suddenly the painting on the front of the house is done. White and the swedish colour #faluröd around door and windows on the western veranda. So satisfied! It now feels even more at home. Love to mix Portugal, Alentejo and Sweden.

2021-09-22 SMELLS LIKE SHIT And attracts flies 🪰 which we usually don’t have. But this 13 tons of three year old cow manure with straw will be super good for my new (12!) raised beds. Also received the wood so we can build the beds. Exciting weeks ahead :) Happy gardener!

2021-09-16 L U N C H The best food has grown in my garden: cucumber, beetroot, cabbage, chilli, garlic and coriander. Gluten-free wraps with beetroot hummus, pickled red unions, fresh cabbage and cucumbers, fried halloumi and coriander/chilli topping fried with olive oil, garlic and sesame seeds.

2021-09-13 ❤️ SWEET POTATOES 🍠 🇵🇹We’ll it’s the plant, not the potatoes. They are (hopefully) in the ground among the roots. If the foliage at all reflects the amount of potatoes then we will have a lot! Most exciting crop this first year in #portugal with my own garden. Harvest in a couple of weeks I think (90-180 days after planting).

2021-09-10 NEEDED AN OCEANVIEW & ICECREAMToo long ago since I saw and smelled the ocean. So when we today went to buy some 🍨 we made sure to choose a store near the west coast. A lovely beach, to which we will return with🩱on! Many photos with different settings, will make a blogpost with a load of them in the coming week.

2021-09-06 M O U R A 🇵🇹A day trip on the road. First stop #moura in eastern #alentejo. Cosy town with a lot of history, nice streets and full of life. This was our first visit, but not the last. Unfortunately still not a good friend with my new lens so I am not satisfied with the photos but hope you get a good sense any way.

2021-08-29 GOLDEN VIEW 🇵🇹All these open golden fields in Alentejo are so beautiful! I also love the change of scenery when they turn green in the autumn. Experience the first summer in this lovely country and it’s been just as fantastic as the winters. The heat has not been unbearable, as I imagined it would. If it’s a “normal” summer, colder or hotter than usual I don’t know. But it’s great!

2021-08-27 GLUTEN FREE PIZZA 🍕 This is a super nice place with great pizza and superb service. The atmosphere is cosy, warm, relaxed and free from alcohol. And you cut your pizza with a pair of scissors. New roads on our way back home in the sunset.

2021-08-25 ONE PLANT – FIVE FLOWERS I have two flowering sunflowers and they give me so much joy with so many flowers. I need and want more flowers in my garden. When planning which scrubs and trees I will plant in the winter the flowering will be in focus. And the colours and forms of the leaves. And the need of irrigation. All suggestions are welcome! My garden and I are in Baixo Alentejo, Ourique.

2021-08-20 F R I D A Y F I K A*Banoffee pie in glasses is our afternoon snack today. I hope your Friday is as fabulous as ours. Love this weather and our home! *Fika is the Swedish word for a break with coffee and cookies. But we “fikar” with all different kinds of snacks. Today without coffee. But with banoffee… yes it rimes :) And “ficar” in Portuguese means stay. Yes the fika stays in our lives even if we have moved to Portugal!

2021-08-09 A P O O L I N A L G A R V E Spent the day around #lagos and before we went home we borrowed our friends pool to cool down. Super nice! And yes, I really have a problem with being serious in photos.

2021-08-07 B I K E R I D E Took our bikes for a ride today. Been longing to explore the countryside on the other side of the village. Lovely views even there. Higher hills and a totally different landscape then in our neighbourhood though.

2021-08-05 P O R T O 🇵🇹Time flies. 2,5 years since we spent one day in Porto. And I want to go back! Want to explore more of the city and the whole Douro valley. This is on top of my bucket list, when we go travelling again. What’s on top of yours?

2021-08-01 C O R N / M I L H O / M A J S 🌽 My favourite. Big, strong and beautiful in all stages. And delicious to eat. Needs warmth, water and nutrients (I use Bokashi water). The male flower on the top of the plant drops pollen to pollinate these female flowers at every cob with the wind. This is my second crop soon ready to pick.

2021-07-28 N E I G H B O U R H O O D 🇵🇹Today we took a walk around in our neighbourhood and the outskirts of the village where we got great views of our house and the surrounding fields. The house to the right, on both landscape images, is ours.

2021-07-26 M I N H O H O R T A 🇵🇹My veggie garden. Min köksträdgård. Clearing the area for more raised beds, berries and other plants with edible crop. I love it already though there is so much more to do. “A bed of roses..” would be beautiful but instead I have “a bed of sweet potatoes”. And the second crop of corn is not far away.

2021-07-22 F O O D 🍅One thing I want to learn more about is how to preserve food in the most delicious and sustainable way. This first year the harvest will land on the plates more than in jars. But tomatoes and figs I have preserved. And dried coriander seeds, as spice and for new growth.

2021-07-20 L I S B O N 🇵🇹Again a short visit to #lisbon. This time to the Swedish embassy, @roger_on_wheels needs a new passport. So much to explore here. Next time. If you want you can give us your best recommendations for #lisboa, so we can plan our next visit.
